Creative Writing Introduction – Session 1 – Page 3

Tackling the Basics

Before You Begin Your Creative Writing

Always be prepared! Here’s a checklist of useful writing aids to have with or around you as you begin to write – just don’t forget the chocolate biscuits.

  • A good notebook
  • A decent pen
  • Plenty of paper
  • A computer or laptop
  • A desk or other writing space
  • A dictionary
  • A thesaurus

It may seem very basic to have this list but being set up well will aid your writing process, so you avoid distractions as much as possible.

So, we’ve looked at the basics and introduced you to how the course will run.  Next, we’ll take look at how you get going with your first draft, then there’s the dreaded rewriting and editing process.  Then we’ll give you some tips on ways to develop and improve (spoiler alert – this course is one of those ways!), and finally, look at how you can generate ideas for your story.  That will lead us into this session’s task.
